Nexon, Maple Story’s publisher, has released their 2023 fiscal earnings report. They posted record revenue growth of 19.7%.

The Numbers

  • Revenue: ¥423 billion ($2.8 billion), up 19.7% year-over-year
  • Net income: ¥71 billion ($475 million), down 29% year-over-year

Highlights of the show:

Nexon’s annual report stated that despite global economic uncertainty, the company grew its revenues by releasing more titles, updating existing games, and acquiring additional content.

Nexon’s performance was broken down by highlighting its market operations.

Maple Story’s new content updates helped to increase its PC online business revenue in Korea. Dungeon Fighter, MapleStory and The Legends of Maple drove consumer spending in China.

Blue Archive’s performance in Japan has led to a revenue increase for Nexon.

The report also notes that revenues in North America and Europe increased year-onyear due to the release of Dave The DiverThe Finals by MintRocket Studios and Embark Studios.

Looking forward

The firm projects that it will generate revenue in Q1 ranging from ¥97 billion ($649 million) to ¥107 billion ($716 million). It also estimates that net income will hit in the range of ¥16.3 billion ($109 million) to ¥23 billion ($154 million).

Nexon also addressed the sanctions imposed by the Korean Fair Trade CommissionIt was brought to its attention last month by the community for unfair trade practices in MapleStory.

Nexon said that to create a more enjoyable MapleStory experience, it discontinued sales of an item based on probability and switched to a model where the same experience is offered, but paid for using in-game currency instead of cash.

The firm believes that sanctions will have a short term effect on revenue.
